Volume 1 covers scenes in Massachusetts on the Boston & Albany line, on former Anthracite roads in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, rare freight operations on the northeast corridor and scenes on the middle division of the former Pennsylvania Railroad in the early 1980s

Footage in this volume comes from cinematographers Ken Bealer, Ralph Curcio/Dan McFadden collection, Dave Deyo/JPM collection and Jonathan Reck.
