Volume 5, Starvation Peak to Lamy. One of the most scenic stretches of the route, the crew also offers insights about the sights that our trains encounters, such as Glorieta Pass and Apache Canyon. The view is mostly looking straight ahead, with occasional shots of the crew or out the side window. Approx 85 minutes.

For fans of the historic ATSF Chicago to Los Angeles mainline, this series and this section in particular is very exciting as it covers the ground of several well-known and famously photographed sites along the route including the double-horseshoe curve at Ribera and the deep-cut S-curve at the western end of Apache Canyon nearest Lamy. The otherwise unfortunate troubled 2nd unit of the SW Chief on this particular day actually affords the viewer a slower and more thorough examination of the route details than normal track speed would allow, especially some remote sites that are difficult to access and view any other way, such as coming west down off Glorieta Pass. As it is the Westbound, much of the direction is directly into afternoon sun, making for less than ideal cinematographic perfection, in this spectacular scenic region, but it is indeed an excellent portrayal of the experience.
